The Children of Dunoon Need Us — Now
When the fire tore through Dunoon, it took away children’s sense of safety, stability, and hope, overnight. Hundreds of children ran from the flames with nothing. Many lost the school uniforms and shoes their parents had carefully saved for. Their books, stationery, backpacks, gone. For some families, even birth certificates were destroyed, placing children at risk of missing the start of the school year altogether.
Parents who were at work returned to ashes. Children who should be excited about learning are now sleeping without blankets, without familiar faces around them, without certainty about tomorrow. The fear they experienced, the screams, the chaos, the loss, stays with them.
Red Cross has stepped in with extraordinary generosity, providing meals every day. But children need more than food to recover. Babies need formula and nappies. School-going children need uniforms and supplies. Families need help replacing documents so their children can return to class and reclaim some normality.
This is where you come in.
The South African Red Cross Society, a trusted humanitarian organisation with deep experience in disaster response, is mobilising support to protect and prioritise the children of Dunoon — ensuring they are not left behind at the very start of their lives.
Your donation today can help:
Put children back into school with dignity
Provide food, hygiene items, blankets, and baby essentials
Help families begin the long process of rebuilding their lives
Every rand matters. Every act of kindness counts.
Please donate through the South African Red Cross Society or deliver urgently needed items via official drop-off points. Non-perishable food, school supplies, and baby products are desperately needed.
