Press Release: Thank you for Supporting Red Cross Cyclone Relief Efforts

nn17 April 2019nn

n

nnOne month after the worst disaster in Mozambique’s recent history, signs of recovery are beginning to emerge as people return home and the deadly cholera outbreak seems to be subsiding.nn

n

nnHowever, hundreds of thousands of people will need sustained support over the coming months.nn

n

nnOur Disaster Response operations are led by the Mozambique Red Cross with support from IFRC and other partners, which helped more than 38,000 survivors since Cyclone Idai made landfall.nn

n

nnOur Staff and Volunteers have distributed Emergency Relief supplies to more than 20,000 people, 900 people have been treated at Red Cross field hospitals and clinics, and more than 250,000 litres of clean water made available.nn

n

nnThe latest distribution effforts in Buzi village are a significant milestone for the ICRC in this disaster response due to the inaccessibility of communities, where all relief supplies were delivered by boat and air, since road access has become impossible.nn

n

nnThe South African Red Cross Society thanks all donors for the overwhelming response our last appeal, and has partnered with Government, Business, Media houses and NGO’s to deliver the donated items to affected communities.nn

n

nnPlease continue to support our Relief and Recovery efforts, as we prepare the next Aid shipment to Mozambique.nn
