SARCS Welcomes IFRC Secretary General to National Office

A warm welcome to the Red Cross family

The South African Red Cross Society (SARCS) officially welcomed the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Secretary General, Mr. Jagan Chapagain, at its National Office. The visit opened with a heartfelt reception, uplifted by the harmonious voices of the SARCS choir. Senior leadership, staff, and volunteers gathered to extend their greetings, reflecting the unity and spirit that define the Red Cross family.

Showcasing impact across South Africa

Following the welcome, Mr. Chapagain attended a series of briefings on SARCS’ humanitarian work and impact. Presentations outlined ongoing initiatives supporting vulnerable communities nationwide, including:

  • Disaster response and preparedness to strengthen community resilience
  • Health and care services that expand access to lifesaving support
  • Volunteer development to mobilize local action and leadership

The discussions highlighted collaboration between SARCS and the IFRC to scale programmes, share expertise, and respond swiftly during emergencies.
