South African Red Cross Society Blanket Drive

East Rand, 7 June 2017. The South African Red Cross Society (SARCS) being a humanitarian organization whose mandate is to alleviate suffering wherever it may be, continues to celebrate its strength and reach and the contribution of our staff and volunteers through the theme “Everywhere for everyone” which is the theme for Red Cross month (May), Red Crescent Day celebrated on the 8th of May each year.nnJune, July and August, being the coldest months in the South African calendar; SARCS Germiston branch aims to support the people sleeping on the streets in Alberton, Germiston and Edenvale by providing them with blankets and warm clothes.nnWe aim to broaden the public’s understanding of the Red Cross Movement by highlighting the diversity of our work and how it can reach the most vulnerable within our communities. This will highlight one of the ways the society addresses humanitarian challenges.nnThe plan is to meet with the South African Police Services (SAPS) at the Alberton Police Station at 19h30 and move from that area onto the Germiston CBD.nn200 blankets will be distributed and SARCS calls for anyone else who wishes to support the course to feel free to join us.nnSAPS Germiston Branch will take the lead showing us alley ways, derelict buildings and roof tops where they know people sleep at night.nn
