Red Cross salutes you Mama Winnie

It is with great sadness that the South African Red Cross Society has received the news of the passing of the Mother of our Nation, Mrs Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.nnPlease accept our deepest condolences.nnThe South African Red Cross has had a long history with your family, through our programme of restoring family links during the imprisonment of Tata Nelson Mandela on Robben Island. The Red Cross restored hope where hope was lost for the Mandela Family. The South African Red Cross society was acknowledged as a beacon of humanity in a dark, and inhumane world. The role of the Red Cross was to visit the political prisoners as they we deemed prisoners of war, Apartheid was a war against humanity.nnWith these thoughts in mind we are reminded of the role that Mama Winnie played for South Africa to become a democracy that is enjoyed by all. As a humanitarian society based on volunteerism, we have shared many values with Mama Winnie.nnHer unwavering commitment to justice, her brave and compassionate fight to improve the quality of lives of all South Africans is an inspiration to our society. We are ever more committed to continue her legacy and to rally South Africans to building a world of compassion, by caring for one another, in a world that is often hostile and dangerous.nnYours in HumanitynChairman
