At least 51 people have been confirmed dead following heavy rains and flooding in KwaZulu-Natal, according to news reports.
The South African Red Cross has deployed teams of Disaster Relief experts and Community Volunteer to assess the damages in affected areas across KZN and the Eastern Cape provinces.
We are currently providing hot meals and emergency household items , blankets and facilitating access to shelter, recovery of lost items, First Aid assistance and Psycho Social support.
Many homes had been swallowed by raging floods, with ober 400 people forced to evacuate in Port St Johns in the Eastern Cape, who now seek refuge in community halls and churches.
In KwaZulu Natal, over 1500 persons forced to flee from mud slides and heavy rain.
We are appealing for in kind donations and funding to assist around 500 persons with Hygiene kits, warm clothing, non perishable foods, blankets, mattresses, tents, household items, baby packs and clean water.
