The South African Red Cross and International Federation of Red Cross
and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) are responding to the devastation brought by Cyclone Idai, one of the worst humanitarian crises in Southern Africa’s history.
With over 400,000 people displaced and 1,000 people feared dead, we
urgently need your help to support families in Mozambique and Zimbabwe whose lives have been affected and forced to flee.
Our relief efforts are currently focused on providing shelter, health, water, sanitation and hygiene.
More than 1,500 emergency kits already have been distributed
by Red Cross volunteers around Beira, providing families with protection from the elements and some degree of privacy and dignity.
A shipment of relief and food items has been prepared by South African Red Cross for delivery to Zimbabwe with assistance from Embassy officials.
