Alexandra, Saturday 26 November 2016.

In its second year running, the festival boasts talent from kids from different schools from in and around   Alexandra and Orange Farm.

The Festival saw 25 of The South African Red Cross Society volunteers and staff lending a hand and showing support.

The tournament which showcased talents in netball, basketball, soccer and cricket is determined to develop talent of the young from underprivileged communities.

SARCS came on board and partnered with the Supersport Lets Play Walter Masemula Sports Festival where the purpose was not only to provide First Aid services to the players taking part in all the sporting codes but also to educate and impart First Aid knowledge.

Following on this year's theme for World First Aid Day which was "First Aid for Children and by Children", it made perfect sense to showcase the extent in which First Aid is needed in households, schools and all other aspects of life. Being equipped with the knowledge of even basic First Aid could be the major difference between what happens to a patient and the after effect of incidents before ambulance services are on site.

Four kids were put to task and taught how to implement CPR. The demonstrations by the four with the Red Cross instructor showed the need for CPR training and the fun learning activity capacitated the children with some knowledge and left curious minds and the interest of learning even more First Aid skills.

The Red Cross services did not end there, as we approach the 1st of December, World AIDS Day, HCT services were also on hand. The community members and teachers present on the day got an opportunity to be tested for HIV and TB screening.
